Classroom Protocols
This page is to give you a list of the protocols, or the rules and policies of the classroom. In our classroom, students earn their rights and responsibilities. If the rules and policies are not followed, then there will be privileges that are taken away. I try my very hardest to make this the best learning environment possible and a safe environment for all of you students.
Please read over all of these rules and policies, and please practice following these every day. |
Rules
1. We Always Listen When Someone Speaks
- It is important for us to always make sure that we listen to someone else, including the teacher, when they are speaking. This includes not interrupting them and not talking when they are talking. This ensures that everyone is listening, paying attention, and being respectful of what another classmate or teacher has to say.
2. We Always Use Polite Words
- In our classroom, we always use kind and polite words. We do not want to be rude, mean, or hateful to our classmates, teachers, principals, administrators, etc. We want to use manners, always saying “Please” or “Thank You”.
3. We Follow Directions Carefully and Quickly
- In our classroom, there is much work to be done. We will always be at a constant motion. It is important to listen carefully to the directions that are being given by the teacher. This helps you complete the tasks that you need to get done in a timely manner. When we all follow directions carefully and quickly, everything will flow smoother in our classroom.
4. We are Always Honest
- I have always been a huge supporter of the honestly policy. In our classroom, we must always be honest and respectful with everyone that we come into contact with. This includes always telling the truth and taking responsibility for our actions.
5. We Always Make Smart Choices
- In our classroom, it is our duty to make sure that we make the best choices that we possibly can. This rule ties in with all the other rules. If we choose to practice the classroom rules and the school rules, then this means that we are making smart choices. We must always think about our actions before we do something.
Policies
Homework Policy-
- Students have until the end of the nine weeks of the current semester to complete any make-up work or assignments they might be missing. Students have exactly one week from the day that they return to school to complete quizzes or tests. I will keep track of the students that lack an assignment in my folder.
- The teacher will meet with the students that miss any work during small group reading time when they return to school in order to review or teach the lessons that they missed. Exceptional needs students will not have to complete make-up work; they will only need to review and play a few educational games with the teacher for participation points. These students will then take a shortened form of a quiz or test.
- Students will not be given homework passes – I give homework because it is important material that the students need practicing! Students must turn in homework on the following day that it is given unless they are absent or there is an emergency.
- Please note that I am very flexible about this Make-Up and Homework policy! I am human, so please realize that I understand. I will be more than happy to work after school with children in order to help them with their make-up work or tests.
1. Entering the classroom-
- Go straight to your table when you enter the classroom in the mornings. When I call your table by number, then you may put your backpack up, come to my desk and ask me any questions that you might have, or give me any notes, permission forms, etc. This policy will be called "Notes, Questions, Backpacks".
2. During class time-
- During class time, I expect you to follow all of the rules listed above. We will use many Whole Brain Management Strategies and hand signals.
- Please make sure to obtain permission before going to the library, restroom, water fountain, or leaving the classroom.
- Make sure to move at a steady rate around the room. Please always make sure that you walk carefully.
3. At the end of class-
- At the end of the day, I will call you table by table to get your backpacks and pack up.
- You must wait until the final announcements are made and the final bell rings before leaving the room.
- After the final bell rings, the bus riders will line up. After this, the car riders will line up and walk out to the front doors to be picked up. One of the 5th grade teachers will be with you each day at pickup.
